Frame-by-Frame Digitizing
The moving image of motion picture film is really a strip of individual still pictures known as frames. Due to our eyes “persistence of vision”, pictures flashed or projected at between 12 and 24 frames per second appear to us as a fluid movie. When film is videotaped while being projected, blurring and flickering occur.
Our process actually images each frame as a separate picture. We then animate these pictures at the correct frames per second speed to create the video. This is the same method used to digitize Hollywood films.
The equipment we use is also used around the world to digitize motion picture film. We deliver the best possible high-def 4:2:2 SDI uncompressed images direct to disk. This is 27x better than the highest quality DVD, 11x better than MiniDV, DV CAM or DVC PRO digital tape, and 2x better than the new Digital BetaCam Tape format.
